On 6 November 2024 at 6pm, Cecilie Gagnebin will give a talk open to all on the origin and history of Scottish tweed.
Participants registered for the Tweed course from 27 to 31 January 2025 will meet on 20 November 2024 at 6pm to prepare their project. The starting point for your personal tweed will be a photo of your surroundings, a painting inspired by nature, or colours that are particularly dear to you.
You will then create an original weaving pattern using the computer programme WeavePoint. If you can, bring your laptop and you can use the demo version of WeavePoint to create your project. You'll create your tweed pattern, choose the colours and then we'll order the wool yarns you need for your project.
The actual workshop will take place in January 2025, Monday to Friday, all day. You will warp and set up your thread on a large foot-operated loom, then you will have several days to weave a length of approximately 4 meters of fabric, and finally, you will learn how to full your fabric to give it its final appearance.
After that, all that’s left is to sew your dream garment or cover your living room sofa.
Monday to Friday, 9am to 5pm
Bring a meal for lunch
Threads will be chosen and ordered on 20 November 2024 and are at the participant's expense.
Basic weaving course or similar experience is required.

After spending thirty years restoring paintings, I fell into textiles. Sewing, embroidery and knitting have always interested me. Wool spinning and weaving came into my life twenty years ago, when my husband and I took over a family estate in Norway and raised a few sheep. I first taught myself how to process wool and then, to improve my skills, I joined a group of peasant weavers who met weekly. I'm particularly interested in traditional wool and linen techniques, and I use my wools dyed with plants and mushrooms to produce textiles for the home and for clothing.
